Micro-needling Info &
After Care
Before and on the day of treatment:
ON THE DAY OF THE TREATMENT: avoid the sun completely. This is critical as exposure to the sun may cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Ideally, do not use any sunscreen because there may be chemicals that can cause harm to the skin and cause irritation. This is just to be extra safe. *Remember the skin is ‘open’ due to the microchannels punctured in the skin
Avoid Anti-Inflammatory Medication for at least 3 days prior to the treatment and 3 days afterward. Micro-needling induces the skin’s natural controlled anti-inflammatory process. Using additional anti-inflammatory medication (like Ibuprofen) can interfere with the controlled inflammatory process and in extreme cases can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. *If needed consult with your doctor for the best pain medication that does not have an anti-inflammatory component.
Drink Water!! Keep your skin hydrated before and after the treatment. It will help your skin heal and rejuvenate quicker. Visible skin renewal can be noticed within 2 weeks after treatment. The skin takes up to 4 weeks to recover and collagen starts working after 4 weeks.
What to Avoid:
*Please note that after completing a micro-needling treatment you may experience redness. It can look and feel like a sunburn. Some people are more prone to redness than others. (It will differ from person to person.) To reduce visible redness, you can use a Hyaluronic Acid Serum or Aloe Vera Gel. Your skin may feel warm, tight, dry, itchy, tingly, and/or have a slight burning sensation. (Swelling may occur which is a normal part of the skin’s controlled inflammatory process.) Days after your treatment you may see some peeling. Don’t be concerned, it is simply the ‘peeling’ of dead skin cells and is normal. Not everyone will have peeling and it is not a benchmark for the effectiveness of the treatment or an end goal for micro-needling treatments.
DO NOT exfoliate during the first 7 days after your treatment.
Avoid the Sun, Sauna (including excessive heat, hot water, and steamy baths/showers), and tanning!
Avoid excessive cardio or any exercise that will cause you to sweat for at least 48 hours. Sweat makes way for dirt, pollutants, and bacteria to enter the opened skin channels. This can cause a reaction or infection. *Also avoid swimming 48 hours after treatment because the pools contain chloride; and other strong chemicals that can irritate the skin and cause adverse reactions.
Avoid products that contain active ingredients such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), Retinoid products (Vitamin A), Vitamin C, or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare. After 7 days you can return to your normal skincare products.
Avoid make-up for 3 Days. Applying makeup can cause the channels to become contaminated, cause irritation, or worse lead to an infection. The skin needs time to breathe in order to recover properly after treatment.
What to do:
During this time you really want to baby your skin. I want you to achieve the best results possible and get your money's worth! Please do not throw away both of our efforts by being lazy with your home care.
Starting the SECOND day after the treatment and onward you may apply SPF 30 or higher. Applying SPF the first few days after a micro-needling treatment is critical and make sure you re-apply every 2 hours during the day! (Yes even on cloudy days)
Cleanse your face with GENTLE and mild soap and lukewarm water and apply your hyaluronic serum(on damp skin.)
Make sure your pillowcases and bedding are cleaned regularly.
DRINK WATER. Yes, I'm stating it again because your body needs hydration.
Be Patient...Within several days or weeks, you will notice a smoother, more radiant appearance in the skin. However, micro-needling yields the best results with multiple sessions. (ask about micro-needling/acne packages)
